Knit a Rose
Pattern
Approx T6 using 4ply acrylic throughout
Centre (Make 1)
Using a weaving cast on, C on 10 sts. K 1 row (COR).
*Increase 1 st at carriage side, K 1 row*
Repeat from * to * until 20sts in WP. COR.
K 2 rows.
Set carriage for hold. Bring forward alt ndls to HP and K 2 rows. Set carriage
for normal knitting and K 2 rows.
** Decrease 1 st each side. K 2 rows**
Repeat from ** to ** until 10 sts remain.
Break off yarn and thread through open sts. Remove knitting from machine. Pull
up both edges of the knitting and fold at the middle.
Roll up doubled knitting to form a tube and stitch closed at narrow end of
tube.
Small Petals (Make 4)
RC000. C on 7 sts using latchet tool method. K 2 rows.
Set carr for Hold. Bring centre ndl to HP.
*Inc 1 st each side ff with 2 prong transfer tool, picking up heel of adj st on
to empty ndl. K 2 rows*
Repeat from * to * once more.
Set carr for normal knitting and repeat from * to * once more.
**Dec 1 st each side ff and K 2 rows**
Repeat from ** to ** until 3 sts remain. RC018.
Break off yarn and thread through open sts. Remove knitting from machine and
pull up sts leaving long thread for sewing to centre.
Large Petals (Make 6)
RC000. C on 7 sts using latchet tool method. K 2 rows.
Set carr for Hold. Bring centre ndl to HP.
*Inc 1 st each side ff with 2 prong transfer tool, picking up heel of adj st on
to empty ndl. K 2 rows*
Repeat from * to * once more.
Set carr for normal knitting and repeat from * to * once more.
**Dec 1 st each side ff and K 4 rows**
Repeat from ** to ** once more.
***Dec 1 st each side ff and K 2 rows***
Repeat from *** to *** until 3 sts remain. RC022.
Break off yarn and thread through open sts. Remove knitting from machine and
pull up sts leaving long thread for sewing to centre.
Making Up
Do not block or press the petals but allow them to roll naturally.
Stitch the four small petals around the rose centre.
Stitch the six large petals around the outside of the small petals.
Leaves (Make 2)
C on 2 sts using e-wrap. COR. K 1 row.
Inc I st using e-wrap on carriage side (3 sts)
*K 4 rows. Inc 1 st both sides (ff if possible else e-wrap)*
Repeat from * to * until 13 ndls in WP.
K 8 rows.
**Dec 1 st each side ff. K 2 rows**
Repeat until 5 sts remain.
C off with latchet tool.
Block and steam each leaf then stitch to garment, leaving ends of leaves loose.
Stitch rose on top of leaves.
